It would seem that technology has gotten the better of me recently. Many people will have noticed my parrot antics on MSN. This is the fault of some bug with google talk and PyMSNt when going invisible. I will be using alsuren@jabber.org.au until chat.cam.ac.uk comes online, at which point I will make the switch, and I'll be the subject of any teething problems that arise in the brand new service. You will hopefully be able to tell which service I'm using at any one time by what my screen name says
Also, all my feeds are getting confused. It turns out that's probably because of the new naming scheme for journals ( thanks to simplytuna for pointing that out ). I don't think my computer enjoys all this fucking about that happens to it on a daily basis, but I actually find it quite fun :D
I have a summer placement that I can definitely use now, but I would quite like a placement doing something I have more experience with: Unix admin. Maybe I should whore myself and see if I can get some work over easter.
What do I want to do when I'm older? Something that excites me of course. I know getting shit working on unix is fun now, but will it be so fun in 5 years? I think I could happily subsist on unix admin and do mini projects in whatever spare time I get. I guess that's the good thing about unix boxes: they tend to be good for mini projects so you can never get bored. The bad thing about programming is that I don't know enough about it, so when things don't do what I want them to, I don't understand how to fix them and that frustrates me.
The bad thing about Unix boxes is that they tend to be close to windows boxes, which means you would probably need to actually need to know shit about windows in order to satisfy whatever your job description was, unless you could get into an organisation that was large enough to have a barrier between you and the windows users in the form of tech support.
I'm off to buy books and possibly some kiwis too. |
