April 9th, 2006

(no subject) [Apr. 9th, 2006|11:51 am]
I promised I wouldn't spend my time on LJ until I'd finished my Stru Mech. Okay. When was the last non-trivial update I posted?

It's quite nice being home where other people post stuff, saving you the bother :P

eg:
( [info]simplytuna's Bag Story )
( [info]grandgousier's birthday bash )

Nobody has posted about climbing yet, so I will summarize:

[info]cesy=technically superior to James, as shown on the Peggy Day traverse wall, but restricted by a fear of heights/falling, so the use of ropes was required. It would be quite interesting to drag her out there again, even though I don't *normally* like belaying, given that most people use ropes purely to give themselves a rest half way up routes that they're easily capable of without if they'd only build up their stamina.

[info]grandgousier=just a standard first-timer, but of course he's male, so it'll take him a while to work out that following routes actually makes your life easier. I had the same mental block when I started.

Also, [info]cesy hasn't posted about this week, apart from a rant concerning *someone*'s no-show, so I will skim over that as well

Started reading 1984 (not 1986) on the train there.
They seem to watch a lot of TV.... well, more than I do when I'm at home. Maybe I'm just odd, with my 5 channels. Maybe [info]cesy was in a strop for at least 50% of her waking time when I was there

Went ice skating, and squash on the same day (yes: she *is* the least sporty person I know, so don't ask me why so much sport was required. A game (not like the one you all just lost) was invented to stop the sisters bickering, so now the words opposite to "open" and "down" are banned, under pain of cold water.

Installed Linux (SUSE, so Mike says it doesn't count, but it's a nice smooth transition into Linux, and it's what the uni uses, so hopefully there'll be a sliver of compatability there.). I expect a post when she gets the teething problems sorted, but middle-click-to-paste and right-click-to-maximize-sideways got a smile. I spent most of my time pointing out the features of KDE, so she won't defect to Gnome at any point in the future. I have volunteered myself to make a hacky script in python to convert from Kopete chat logs to plus!-style. I've not actually taken the time to complete it as yet because I keep getting distracted. *will sit down and do it after lunch, pronnis*
