Yes: I'm supposed to be doing past exam papers, but I must say a few things first
I have recently been on a quest to separate my music playing ability from my timewasting-on-MSN/internet ability from my (or rather other people's) ability to wipe my computer in nine keystrokes (rm -rf / )
Zeroth idea (occurred to me before the start of term) = Get my PDA connected to my computer via SSH over PPP over USB, but this didn't work when I tried it over the holidays (see below) but it should work now.
First idea = Get my 2nd keyboard/mouse/screen combo to work as a separate terminal for use with internet/music ONLY. Didn't work, thanks to configuration issues (google points to my graphics card trying to be clever and not letting me use my second screen on its own)
Second idea = Use my awayd.py script (the thing which sets my Kopete away message and turns on/off my music, taking its instructions from my calendar) combined with the calendar function on my PDA. This is something I only thought of doing today, because my PDA was being silly for whatever reason and not connecting to my computer (causing hard resets to be necessary). A kernel upgrade and a spot of googling fixed that. There's also a problem with my udev config, so I have to manually enable PDA syncing each boot (ie once per term?)
Third idea (and this is most exciting) = a python script (not written by me, which might explain why it works so well ;) ) which lets you control amaroK via a web browser. For those of you in Cambridge, go to http://dl325.pet.private.cam.ac.uk:4774/ if you want to piss me off mightily (or just wake me up on a Sunday morning). This makes me happy. I should probably see whether I can add a little bit of logging support to it if it doesn't already have it, so I can see who's being a bitch to my music at any given time.
Those of you not in cambridge..... I'm trying to think of a way for you guys to get access..... Hows about this: Comment or IM me, and I'll set up a temporary link for you to try out.
But yes: I am happy :D
